I researched the iD22 to make sure the signal path and sound performance was an enhancement to these and compared the Burr-Brown AD/DA converters Audient engineered into their iD22. I believe Audient uses the same converters in their incredible industry standard professional consoles, as does much of the industry. Now that I have used the ID44 for a few days A/B tested with my 18i8 I can tell you the ID44 is definitely a step up (of course I was able to do great music with my 18i8 but the ID44 just gets you closer to a nicer/more polished sound without having to do much in post). The id14 is easier to use than the id22. It’s more for the novice/beginner enthusiast whereas the id22 is for more advanced folk. The id22 has both ADAT input and output, whereas the id14 only has ADAT input. So in short: id14 = extra mic channels but no hardware compressors, etc. id22 = extra mic channels + hardware compressor.
